Kalinago Barana Aute

Details & Itinerary

Kalinago Barana Aut’e meaning “Kalinago Village by the sea” is a village displaying how the Kalinago lived their lives before the arrival of Christopher Columbus. This is an interactive experience where you will experience local traditions such as canoe building, cassava Bread baking, raft making.

———–

The Village is known for its beautiful location on a cliff overlooking the rough Atlantic Ocean. Take the trail through the greenery, stop, and watch a small waterfall.

The trail aims to give you a deep knowledge of the Kalinago life starting from the beginning and working your way towards modern-day life with a climax of a cultural dance performance.

From here we will head up on the Horse Back Ridge, a great viewpoint showing the mountains and valleys on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other.

The road continues down the valleys to the popular Hibiscus Eco Village situated next to one of Dominica’s 365 rivers. Here you will enjoy a colorful buffet of typical Kalinago dishes.

Browse in the shops where you can buy Kalinago Crafts, take a dip in the river or just enjoy the beautiful views of the river pools.
